The 19th over of the match when Chriss Jordan and Mayank Aggarwal ran two runs on Kalisngo Rabada Yorker. The commentator praises the batsman for the coordination while the umpire called it ‘Short Run’.
Simon Doull said on commentary that the run was completely fine as Jordan’s bat cross the line. The KXIP gave just one run and after 20 over both the team finished on 157/8. The Super over did not go with the Punjab and Delhi won the match.
Virender Sehwag got quite angry with the umpire’s decision and tweeted, “I don’t agree with the Man of the Match Choice. The umpire should give the Mn of the Match for the short run. Short Run Naho that. And that was the difference. #DCvsKXIP.”
Delhi Capitals also had the chance to grab the match in the very next ball. when Mayank hit the towards the midwicket and Shreyas Iyer dropped the catch. That one run was the difference between a win and tie for KXIP.
There is no statement from the officials yet. This is not the first time in IPL history. Earlier in 2019. Royal Challengers skipper Virat Kohli came own heavily S Ravi after the final delivery bowled by Mumbai Indians turned no-ball. Umpire did not give the decision of no ball and hence losing the match for RCB.
According to the IPL rulebook umpire decision is the final decision of the match. And here it put the end of the debate for now. But the fact is that it was a supremely unexpected decision and it will not vanish soon anyhow.
