IPL 2020 KKR vs CSK: Chennai Super Kings lavished a good start but slipped in its chase submitting to Kolkata Knight Riders by 10 runs at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday (8 October.)
Chasing 168 to win, CSK stood at 90 for 1 at the culmination of 10 overs before KKR retaliated strongly to register its third win of the tournament.
Shane Watson carried on with his good run from the last match and scored a 50.
The CSK middle order looked out of order as MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav and Sam Curran struggled to gather the left-over runs.
IPL 2020 KKR vs CSK: It was a perplexing decision by the team management to have an out of form Jadhav come ahead of powerful hitters like Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja.
The Super Kings could not get any boundaries between the 11th and 15th over, scoring a meager 20 runs.
Earlier, Rahul Tripathi clarified his promotion to the top of the order by smashing a 51-ball 81 and guiding KKR to a decent score of 167.
Led by leg-spinner Karn Sharma’s gleaming spell in the middle overs, Super Kings recovered strength fully after the halfway stage. Karn, who replaced Piyush Chawla, was playing his maiden match of the season.
IPL 2020 KKR vs CSK: Tripathi, who was raised into the limelight in IPL 2017 when he dazzled as an opener for Rising Pune Supergiant, made full use of the opportunity to go after the bowling in the PowerPlay, hitting five boundaries in no time gave Knight Riders a strong opening.
After being hit by Tripathi for a six in his opening over, Karn, Super Kings’ only change for Wednesday’s match, made a huge comeback. He varied his length and pace vigilantly and did not surrender another boundary in his spell.
Knight Riders was well placed for a strong finish as they scored 93 for two in 10 overs, thanks to Tripathi’s offensive strike.
IPL 2020 KKR vs CSK: The Super Kings medium-pacers Shardul Thakur, Curran, and Dwayne Bravo shared seven wickets between them and made sure that Knight Riders’ momentum was apprehended towards the end after Karn’s magnificent performance.
But in the end, KKR had just enough to hand CSK its fourth loss of the season.
