Denuvo is one of the aspects of PC gaming which has received harsh criticism for the gamers. Any game which has added the same(Dragon Quest Builders 2) has met with controversy. When it is added to a game, the reaction of the gamers is anger. But, when it is removed, it is met with praise.
This time we are talking about the latter of the two reactions. It is one of the popular games by Square Enix. Dragon Quest 2 has removed the Anti-Tamper addition with its new update. So, let us look at the events which have transpired.
Dragon Quest Builders 2 Update
As we have said in the title, the update was done in a very hush-hush manner. There were no announcements by the developer. It happened after an update was available for the game. It was later discovered by the players on the website SteamDB. The website had the latest patch notes for the game which released on June 3.
The game was launched just 7 months ago on Steam and this update has come. Now, we were reading about the game on Steam. It looks like very few players actually know about the change. We only stumbled upon one other thread which actually mentioned the change. And it seems that players consider this an out of time update. Hence, the developer has certainly done its job of keeping it quiet.
The Controversial Denuvo in Dragon Quest Builders 2
When it comes to recent gaming memory, implementation of the Denuvo has been met with controversy. This additional software which is sometimes bundled is met with outright rejection. Square Enix is not the first developer to roll back on the Denuvo addition.
We saw id Software removing the Denuvo from Doom: Eternal. This was because there was a massive outcry by the players of the game. But, this is not because of the piracy aspect of the application. It is because it was found that the application causes performance issues on PC.
There are also pertinent questions as to how the application helps to curb piracy. It is because Dragon Quest Builders 2 was cracked after a few months of release. Hence, the move was welcomed by the players.
