Battlefront is a series of first and third-person shooter video games. Which is based on the Star Wars films. Players dawn the role of soldiers in either of two opposing armies in different time periods. These time periods depending on the Star Wars Universe.
The series was launched in 2004. By the series creator LucasArts with Star Wars: Battlefront. It was, however, developed by Pandemic Studios for LucasArts. The has received positive reviews and done well for itself in the market.
Star Wars: Battlefront II
In 2005, Pandemic developed a sequel. Star Wars: Battlefront II. Which was also critically and commercially successful. The games were followed by Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron in 2007.
Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron came out in 2009. which was launched for the handheld consoles and Star Wars Battlefront: Mobile Squadrons for mobile devices. LucasArts has made several attempts to get a third major Battlefront game to the fans. But no projects were published before the Walt Disney Company’s acquisition of LucasArts.
Which in itself is a separate story. We will now head over to the real topic for discussion.
What do we know?
Dice has recently confirmed last week that the recent Scarif expansion for Star Wars Battlefront II is going to be the last of itself. While the company had promised support to last for years. A new report claims that it would not involve a third instalment. According, to a source, DICE is instead focusing on the next instalment of Battlefield franchise.
The first-ever game was heavily criticised for being an online-only game. While the second did feature a story mode, it’s often been blasted for an over-reliance on microtransactions.
On the plus side, there is some good news for EA’s Star Wars – Jedi: Fallen Order series of games. The Instagram page also claims that a second chapter is slated for sometime in 2022, a move which definitely makes sense after how well the first one performed. Not everyone loved it, of course, but sales were through the roof and reviews were mostly positive.
